My beautiful Mum, with my Dad
There are so many gifts my mother gave me (and my 4 siblings):
The gift of herself
The gift of life
The gift of nurture
The gift of unconditional love
The gift of tough love
The gift of faith
The gift of sacrifice
The gift of encouragement
The gift of believing in me, when I didn't believe in
myself
The gift of always being there for me, no matter what
The gift of example -
how to love, nurture, comfort, encourage, listen, bless others, how to be a
wife, a mother, a friend
The gift of an excellent & well rounded education and the work ethic
required for success
The gift of intelligence & creativity, and the constant encouragement and opportunity to develop both areas of my brain
She taught me to appreciate life, to make the most of what you've been given and to be grateful in all things.
I am forever grateful. I LOVE YOU, MUM ❤
I was very young when I first became a wife (18) & a mother (19)...
September 1984
I wasn't ready for motherhood at 19 but I embraced it with all that I had. I loved being a Mummy so much that I went back again and again.
I gave birth to 4 children; Sarah, Daniel, Benjamin & Rebecca, but I also lost 2 babies to miscarriage (one at 8 weeks and one at 13 weeks). My youngest child was born just after my 27th birthday.
Being a Mum is not what gives me my identity but it is a huge part of who I am. If not for my children, I don't think my life would be as rich as it has been. They have taught me an enormous amount about life & love.
When their Dad left us, they were aged 13, 8, 6 & 5, and we became the inseparable "Denehy 5" who laughed LOTS, cried a bit too, made wonderful memories together, we hurt together and we healed together. Together we've lived the great, the good, the bad & the ugly.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post Liz...It had me blinking back tears from the emotion in the words and pictures. (my father abandoned my family when I was 11, and my brother 8....I feel quite a connection with this post).

Excuse me while I tend to the tears that have just welled up so much my vision is temporarily blurred - what a gracious post , I especially love the words 'the gift of believing in me', always a powerful gift to receive. It was also lovely to see the photos over time of you and your children, the word that comes to mind about you is 'strength' to be able to take that role on by yourself. And lastly, lovely to read those two comments of support from those closest to you echoing and confirming who you are as a mum.
