Wild Bird Wednesday: Black-fronted Dotterel

I was going to share the third of my "lifers" from Burleigh Heads today... but Michael & I went out on Sunday afternoon to the Berrinba Wetlands and I came across a few new lifers. It seems every time I go out birding, I discover new birds that I haven't come across before - sign of someone relatively new to birding. Exciting!!

So today, I'm sharing the Black-fronted Dotterel. Two little birds sat safely across the lake on a sand bar. The Berrinba Wetlands was previously an inland sand mine so there is an abundance of sand.

  6. Great photos of the little Dotterels. At present there are a couple on one of the shorebird roosts up here but I have never seen them during the summer when there are so many migratory birds around. Possibly they just get lost in the crowd!

  8. it's quite exciting isn't it to see a new bird to you for the first time AND to capture it in your camera too. The water birds seem to be a little elusive I've found so getting their photos is a big buzz; lovely ones you have here of the dotterel Liz
