The alarm sounds at 4:30am jolting me out of a deep sleep.
I look out the window, it's still dark outside but it won't be for long.
We must be crazy; who voluntarily gets up at this hour??
We get dressed, grab a muesli bar and a bottle of water.
It's raining lightly outside, threatening to ruin our plans.
As we drive towards the beach, the roads are almost deserted.
When we arrive at Currumbin, the only people in the carpark are the select group of photographers and the team from Gold Coast Tourism who have organised the day.
We walk along the sandy path to the beach, walk across the sand to the rocks.
The rain has stopped, the sky starts to clear, we wait...
As the sun finally peers above the horizon, its rays reach upwards...
It's clear to see why so many photographers love this time of morning...
For me, the ocean is so therapeutic. I could sit for hours and listen to the waves crashing. It's like music to my soul; both powerful and yet serene at the same time...
It's always hard to leave...
