World Bird Wednesday: Water Birds

A trip to Wynnum waterfront for some "girl time" on my daughter's 20th birthday, resulted in a lovely surprise. Not only was it an absolutely beautiful day, but I saw & captured 5 different birds that I haven't had the opportunity to see in real life. It was low tide & these birds were all foraging for food in the mud.
Here are a some of my images (more next week)...

Bar-tailed Godwit

Black-winged Stilt (juvenile)

Black-winged Stilt (mature)

  5. Great photos - but now I am wondering what the other 3 were that you saw. I'll check next week. The Stilt photos are great. I see very few of them up here. As to the Godwits - Well you need to plan a trip up this way next September when the return migration occurs! Then you can see 1000's - literally!!

  8. Both birds that I have captured (on camera!) in New Zealand. The Godwits' migration is one of the most amazing migration stories: for me second only to that of the Monarch Butterfly.
