Wild Bird Wednesday: Grey Fantail

The Grey Fantail is found in most treed habitats throughout Australia.
It is most easily recognised by its constantly fanned tail and agile aerial twists and turns.

Both sexes are similar in appearance: grey above, with white eyebrow, throat and tail edges.

This species is quite inquisitive and will closely approach an observer.

  4. They may be inquisitive, but they are also extremely restless, so you did incredibly well to get such beautiful, sharp, still shots! :)

  11. Love your Fantail Liz, they are such interesting little birds.
Our New Zealand Fantail (Piwakawaka in Maori) is one of my favourite birds.
I used to see them often in my garden, but there are too many cats in the neighbourhood now so they've gone to safer parts.
A vulnerable bird because of their inquisitive nature like you said.
