One of my favourite beaches on the Gold Coast, Kirra Beach, is home to a colony of Crested Terns.
I absolutely love these birds. They are fascinating to watch.
This is just a fraction of the colony...

geweldig wat is dit mooi.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, I love the Terns flying around, your camera work is superb Liz.
ReplyDeleteUnusual bird to me- I've never seen one before! Great shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds! Nice flight shots!
ReplyDeleteI really like Crested Terns for some reason also. I find it interesting to compare their body proportions with that of a gull and then think about the lifestyle differences that arise from that.
ReplyDeleteI love the shallow field of focus in those flock photos that really single out that preening bird. Second favourite would be the juxtapositioning of a beautiful wild bird with the skyscraper background (you can tell it's the Gold Coast!).
What beautiful creatures, Liz, and they look magnificent on the sand.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a wonderful weekend, my friend!
I love their beautiful yellow bills. Looks like a great place to bird.
ReplyDeletethey're so cute and plucky!
ReplyDeleteI always find these birds amusing for some reason, especially when they are busy grooming. You captured them beautifully.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Were you laying on the ground for the first several photos? They have such a great angle.
ReplyDeleteThey are great birds - and a little more cooperative than many as well!

These are great shots, Liz. Terns are such interesting and amusing birds. I remember the day you were out there stalking them. It's a good thing this colony was protected by the locals who stood up and protested against the council's plans for a cruise ship terminal there.
