Wild Bird Wednesday: Birds of Alaska

While on my Alaskan cruise, I didn't get a lot of opportunities to photograph birds.

I did however, capture some of the bird life around the dock at JUNEAU after my day tour of the Mendenhall Glacier. Below are a few of the birds I managed to capture in Juneau.

Mew Gull.

Black Guillemot.

Surf Scoter.

While on the tour boat on SITKA Sound we saw a few more birds:

Common Murre.

Herring Gull.

Bald Eagles in flight from afar...

And one perched in a tree...

The following images were taken at the Raptor Rehabilitation Centre in Sitka, Alaska.

I love the variety of birds in the north - such a great wilderness. There is a local bald eagle where I live, I've only caught a small glimpse of it one day, but he is so huge! Such grand raptors.

The Bald Eagles look very impressive both in flight and close at hand. There seems to be a distinct lack of bright colours amongst these birds - I guess they would be too visible to predators in the harsh climate.
