World Bird Wednesday: Silver Gull

I am currently down on the Mornington Peninsula, in Victoria, visiting my parents for some R & R.
For this week's World Bird Wednesday, I am showcasing the Silver Gull - the most common gull in Australia. Silver Gulls congregate in a wide range of places and they are opportunistic scavengers, eating almost any food.

These images were taken along the Yarra River in Melbourne city. The adult Silver Gull has silver-grey wings with black tips, red-orange ring around the eye and a bright red-orange beak & legs  - the brighter the colour of the beak & legs, the older the bird.

These next images were taken on St Kilda & Seaford beaches.

The juvenile Silver Gull has brown eyes, dark grey-brown beak and legs and mottled brown on grey wings.

Sadly I missed this weeks link up due to spending 3 days in Melbourne city without internet.

Stunning bird photos, you must be very patient, or they enjoyed posing. :)

Elizabeth, What a shame you missed the WBW cut off with your marvelous collection of gulls. It might be a good idea to add it next week even if you have a new post, it would be fine if you doubled down. I wouldn't want folks to miss this!
I especially liked the train tressel to nowhere...being a sucker for perspective. There must be an interesting story there!

Wonderful shots of these fine birds. Interesting about the color and age relationship.

Here in New York many gulls are regarded as pests and treated as such. You really captured why they are beautiful in their own right...
