Wild Bird Wednesday: Black-fronted Dotterel

I was going to share the third of my "lifers" from Burleigh Heads today... but Michael & I went out on Sunday afternoon to the Berrinba Wetlands and I came across a few new lifers. It seems every time I go out birding, I discover new birds that I haven't come across before - sign of someone relatively new to birding. Exciting!!

So today, I'm sharing the Black-fronted Dotterel. Two little birds sat safely across the lake on a sand bar. The Berrinba Wetlands was previously an inland sand mine so there is an abundance of sand.

Great photos of the little Dotterels. At present there are a couple on one of the shorebird roosts up here but I have never seen them during the summer when there are so many migratory birds around. Possibly they just get lost in the crowd!

it's quite exciting isn't it to see a new bird to you for the first time AND to capture it in your camera too. The water birds seem to be a little elusive I've found so getting their photos is a big buzz; lovely ones you have here of the dotterel Liz
