On one of my recent visits to the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, I discovered a lone Hardhead amongst a large group of Pacific Black Ducks. The Hardhead is the only true diving duck found in Australia.
On this same visit, there was also a lone Mallard. The Mallard is not native to Australia and was introduced from the 1860's. Such stunning colours!

enjoyed each of your photos from the botanic gardens. I've visited there many years ago; unfortunately it was a Boxing Day and it was SWELTERING:) Your ducks and most colourful and calming to see; lovely photography
Awesome shots, Liz! We have mallards galore. Their colors are great in the sunlight. I've never seen a Hardhead. I like the blue eyes.
Stunning photos of the Hardhead. Never heard of this duck before, but now I know. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful images. That first one is amazing, great composition, colors and clarity.
Wow Liz, that Hardhead Duck is so cool. I love those warm brown and gold colors. Of course the Mallard has that beautiful plumage we get to see everywhere in the states but they are still special to me.
Beautiful captures Liz.
Both ducks are beautiful. I especially love that first shot of the hardhead. Beautiful bird.
I had not seen , or at least consciously seen, a hardhead duck before. Thank you for posting this one. The mallards are pretty aren't they?
