This is Kangaroo Paw (genus Anigozanthos). It is native to Australia, and is the floral emblem of Western Australia.
They are quite beautiful in their own way... The next 2 images were captured in my parents garden on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
The following 2 were captured in the Roma Street Parklands, Brisbane, QLD.
The common name (Kangaroo Paw) derives it name from the paw-like flower

I love Kangaroo Paws...My partner, GrumpyDaddy's hobby is growing native plants...we have quite a few of these kangaroo paws in our garden at the moment and the kids are facinated by them
