Weekend Highlight: Dreamtime Beach, NSW

We haven't had much opportunity to get to the beach this summer; closed beaches on weekends due to dangerous under-tows, my inability to drive as far as the coast (due to the residual problems with my right leg after my car accident in Nov 2009), and most recently the severe weather/rain/storms which have cleared now in South East Queensland.
This weekend Michael had the entire weekend rostered off work, so we planned a trip to the beach. My request was to drive just over the QLD/NSW border, to a beautiful uncrowded beach called Dreamtime Beach, south of Fingal Head.

A glimpse of what was awaiting us...

Fingal Head to the left, with Cook Island in the background.

And looking south along Dreamtime beach...

My 2 youngest step-daughters, Lizzie & Jess (who live with us full time).

And Bec (my youngest), already in her element...

The tide was on its way in and crashing on the rocks... hmmm, perhaps those people were a little too close.

After enjoying & photographing the beach, we made our way up onto the headland...

... and we were greeted by this - Fingal Head lighthouse, the oldest existing public building in the Tweed Shire, originally constructed in the 1870's. Not a huge lighthouse, but built on one of the eastern most points of Australia.

Down from the lighthouse on the lower part of the headland was a perfect spot to watch the incoming tide crashing on the rocks.

Or to photograph it...

Or to soak up the beauty of it all.
(Not sure where Michael disappeared to...)

The waves crashing on the Basalt cooling columns...

And on the many fishermen

The view out to Cook Island was beautiful

On the whole, the perfect day to enjoy God's creation and what I love doing most, with the company of family - there's nothing better!

More to come, later in the week.

Ahhhhhh, the tweed heads, some beautiful nooks in that area which you've captured so well here. Really pleased that you and your family got a break away considering all the recent weather conditions.

Oh what a lovely isolated beach to spend time at with loved ones and worth the journey. I can just imagine listening to the sound of those waves hitting the rocks as your photographs tell such a great story.

The view there is gorgeous, but the waves looks fierce. I would love to be there just to photograph the view.
