World Bird Wednesday: Black Swan

Black Swans are found throughout Australia with the exception of Cape York Peninsula, and are more common in the south. The Black Swan has been introduced into several countries, including New Zealand, where it is now common, and is a vagrant to New Guinea.

Beautiful bird and great photos. We occasionally have them turn up swimming out on the waters of the bay at high tide.

Very beautiful, I would love to see one in person.

I was lucky to see a black swan family in London, (why is London now up everywhere for me :) ) Not sure of the park now..
Anyways, they were amazing, couldn't believe my eyes! Thank you for reminding me!

Wonderful birds to see... I have had a breeding pair (I hope I haven't already told you) on my patch in Cheshire for a few years.

Unfortunately the cygnets have always predated.

Your images are wonderful to see..

I love the ruffled tail in your third photo, like a Spanish dancing dress.

Hi there - I still remember the shock of seeing a black swan for the first time.

Gannets are great birds to watch - if you are on the MP again soon you should be able to see then from the coast - or better still on the Sorrento to Queenscliff ferry.

I saw lots of new birds on my first trips up to Brisbane - but only because I went out of the city!

Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne

I'm amazed that your friend let you get close enough to take these photos--can't believe the detail you've captured. I did have to smile though--were you getting a warning from those ruffled feathers? Saw some white swans in England and was told that they could be vicious if they were swimming with their babies.

Beautiful shots of the Black Swan Liz! The only one I have ever seen resides at a local hotel that has a huge pond. It looks like this bird swam right up to you? They are inquisitive aren't they?

Such great shots, Liz! It really is a beautiful bird. Unfortunately there's no black swans up here in the north. We have to travel quite a long way to see one.

Wow, beautiful, love those black swans. Gorgeous shots.
I've seen two here (imported from Australia), but I have not seen them for months. I hope they are ok.
Have a great weekend.
