Sky Watch Friday: Cabarita skies

About 1 hour & 20 mins from home is one of our favourite northern NSW beaches. Cabarita Beach is so beautiful, even when it's stormy...

But when the sky clears...

It's stunning!

I'm looking forward to a 5 day break here in 10 days time.

Wild Bird Wednesday: Curlew Sandpiper

Earlier this year, we took a drive up to Beachmere (near Bribie Island) to meet a birding friend to photograph birds in his area. I captured a few "lifers" that day. This was one of my favourites:

The Curlew Sandpiper is a small to medium sized migratory shorebird. It's long down-curved beak is black, as are it's legs & feet.

Summer Sunset at Currumbin Alley

Last night I was looking back to when I started blogging, just over 3 years ago (4 July 2011). My first post was to explain the meaning behind the name of my blog.

Tuesday, 19 August 2014, marked 3 years since I bought my first DSLR (19 August 2011). It was then that my passion for photography and sharing the beauty of my part of the world began. It's been interesting watching how my photography has evolved and developed. It's been a lot of fun, some frustration thrown in, and great therapy.

I am extremely blessed to live in a sub-tropical climate, with relatively mild Winters. However it's been raining steadily for a few days now, so here's a Summer sunset I prepared earlier...

There are 1440 minutes in every day... 1440 opportunities to capture a moment of beauty.
What moment of beauty have you captured recently?

Skywatch Friday: Sunset at The Pass

The most popular surf breaks on the North Coast of NSW is "The Pass" at Byron Bay. There wasn't much surf this particular evening, and the clouds were quite heavy. It didn't look like we would get much of a sunset.

I think this shot might just qualify for Theresa's "Good Fences" meme...

A tiny gap appeared in the clouds and the setting sun peeped through.

It wasn't spectacular but the soft colours were lovely.

Sunset at Lennox

Michael's "rostered days off" often involve a day trip somewhere around south east Queensland or across the Queensland/New South Wales border to a location in northern NSW. The border is only an hour from our home in Brisbane.

A few weeks ago, after a lazy morning, we decided to visit Lennox Head in northern NSW for sunset. We had only ever been to Lennox Head once, on the way down to Port Macquarie last year. Lake Ainsworth was the chosen spot at Lennox, and it is directly across the road from 7 Mile Beach. I had seen some lovely sunsets from there and I was in desperate need of a little inspiration.

When we arrived, the sun was low in the sky. I had a quick walk around the picnic area of Lake Ainsworth.

Just across the road (about 20m) from Lake Ainsworth, is 7 Mile Beach where I took a few shots of the reverse sunset. The reflections were wonderful. That's Lennox Head in the distance.

It was a beautiful afternoon. I'm grateful for Winter days like this... We really are blessed living where we do!
