Macro Monday: Petunias

One of the things I love about Spring is the abundance of flowers! It's a macro photographer's delight!!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

My week has been full of photography trips to Brisbane City Botanical Gardens, Roma Street Parklands (Brisbane City) & some walks around the neighbourhood. So there were plenty of photos to choose from for the many photo challenges I have entered.

Here are my interpretations of this weeks Scavenger Hunt Sunday:

Macro

I LOVE the Eastern Water Dragon (those of you who follow me will know that!!) - this one was sunning himself beside the water feature posing for the camera.

Cover
This "Hardhead" duck seemed to be covering his face under his wing - perhaps he was shy?

Home

To me, family is the epitomy of home. These are my 4 beautiful children who have been an enormous part of my adult life from the age 19, when I had my eldest daughter.
Photo credit of my eldest son, with his young son, goes to my beautiful youngest daughter Bec (RAD Photography).

Found Texture

I love the texture in this ornamental native grass with its feathery plumes.

Tree

I discovered this interesting tree growing in the Roma Street Parklands.

There you go... my Scavenger Hunt Sunday collection. Thanks for stopping by.

Fabulous Friday & Skywatch Friday

Today was a day of pampering. First up, a trip to the hairdressers which is always enjoyable. I probably have one of the best hairdressers around - a colour, trim & blow-dry accompanied by a cappucino or two, flavoured green tea & loads of laughs which was guaranteed to lift the spirits of my daughter & step-daughter who have both had a week of let-downs.

We arrived home and noticed the sun shining brightly, a quick change into our walking gear, armed with cameras. We turned the corner out of our street, to notice the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos in the vacant block of land (we have been trying to capture these birds for weeks). What a treat!

And along the walking trail...

To the park at the other end...

This afternoon's skies would not have been considered anything special.... unless you knew how overcast it has been most of the week!

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

I think of all the photos I have taken this week, this would have to be my highlight!!

Here's why:
I have been trying to capture these resident Sulphur-crested Cockatoos for weeks. I was thrilled to find them on the vacant block around the corner as I ventured off on my afternoon walk.

World Bird Wednesday:Rainbow Lorikeet, Galah & Magpie-lark

I have a fascination with photographing birds, and have been looking for an opportunity to post some of my latest photos of birds from the weekend. I was thrilled to find this link up.

In Brisbane, Australia, we are fortunate to have so many varied habitats suitable for birdlife to exist. The Greater Brisbane Region is a sanctuary for more than 370 species of birds, both native and introduced.

The Rainbow Lorikeet is an Australasian parrot. In Australia it is common along the eastern seaboard and its habitat is rainforest, costal bush and woodland areas amongst fruit and flower bearing trees.
One of the houses in out street has numerous large Grevilleas - the flowers of these are a favourite food for these beautifully coloured birds.

The Galah is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos, and it can be found in open country in almost all parts of mainland Australia. They are common in metropolitan areas and abundant in open habitats which offer at least some scattered trees for shelter.
This Galah was one of a flock forraging for food in an open parkland in a Brisbane suburb.

The Magpie-lark is a conspicuous Australian bird of small to medium size, also known as the Mudlark in Victoria & Western Australia, the Murray Magpie in South Australia and as the Peewee in New South Wales & Queensland. It is a common and very widespread bird both in urban and rural areas.
This young Peewee was just sitting by a duck pond in a rural Brisbane parkland and appeared to be posing for the camera.

And then he turned & stared straight into my camera, as if to say, "OK. That's enough!!"

I Heart Macro: Out of my Comfort Zone

Over the weekend, I decided to capture some very different shots from my normal choices. I think we can often get caught in what we know we do well, or what we really love and it can stop us developing our art and discovering our capabilities.

So I challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone. And the results are some photos & posts that I am really happy with - Scripture & A Snapshot & Rural Inspiration. And this macro challenge is my third from the weekend's efforts.

Thanks for stopping by and why not join in?
