Wild Bird Wednesday: Diary of the Black Swan

I took these shots last year and somehow never shared them. These were taken over the space of about 8 weeks.

Mumma Swan checks her eggs and moves them around...

5 beautiful Black Swan cygnets (05/07/2012)...

I was intrigued by the way the mother Black Swan swam with her wings open. Apparently it's so the little cygnets can climb on if they get tired.

A month later, the cygnets have grown so much (08/08/2012)...

Oh happiness, they all survived. So nice of you to go back again and again to capture the whole process.

Great pictures - I find Black Swans a real challenge - the exposure never seems easy!

Killer Whales?! I think I should do the rest of this comment in green font!

More details on the seals will show up soon on my wordy blog!

Cheers - and thanks for the link to WBW - Stewart M

What fantastic shots, Liz! I love Black Swans, but we don't have them around here. Your photos of the little ones are awesome, especially the water dripping off the bill!

The first photo amused me. It looks as though she is pretending to be an Ostrich.

Beautiful shots! I love the idea that the cygnets can climb on Mom's wings when necessary.

The black swan is so beautiful. I've never seen one here. Those babies are so cute and they sure grow fast.
