Wild Bird Wednesday: Curlew Sandpiper

Earlier this year, we took a drive up to Beachmere (near Bribie Island) to meet a birding friend to photograph birds in his area. I captured a few "lifers" that day. This was one of my favourites:

The Curlew Sandpiper is a small to medium sized migratory shorebird. It's long down-curved beak is black, as are it's legs & feet.

Great photos of the Curlew Sandpipers. They are beautiful little birds. Up here I usually see them standing close in to Godwits and hard to see between them.

I love Beachmere, especially that little conservation park there! I remember seeing Varied Trillers and Azure Kingfishers in those woods when I was younger, and thinking I'd seen two huge rarities, haha!

You've done well to get such great photos of Curlew Sandpipers - they are usually distant silhouetted specks on shiny mudflats when I see them. The first two shots especially are fantastic and I love the narrow field of focus in them.

Aaw fabulous! I've only seen the curlew a couple of times. Once in a zoo, and once on our honeymoon in QLD :)
