Brisbane: The River City

Brisbane is a city that is characterised by its snake-like river that weaves throughout the CBD and suburbs. (The CBD actually has river on both sides).

Brisbane's public transport system includes 19 City Cats & 9 City Ferries

There are lots of walkways along the Brisbane River, although the "floating walkways" were destroyed by the January 2011 floods.

This weekend I had a lovely visit to New Farm Park - a beauitful expansive parkland on the Brisbane River with numerous wonderful rose gardens and plenty of areas to play, relax and picnic.

The Rotunda is a popular spot for weddings

The river alongside the Parklands is popular for water sports

And water hoons

The river walkway is popular for both walking and cycling

Dogs are allowed in the parklands, as long as they are on a leash

There are enormous grassed areas to play ball games... or quiet shady spots for reading & relaxing

And my post would not be complete without a few photos of one of my favourite forms of  residential architecture dating back to the 1840's, the "Queenslander". Brisbane city and the suburbs are full of these beautiful historic homes - my dream is to, one day, own one!

I love Brisbane and if's meandering river. I remember the beautiful houses and the gorgeous Jacaranda that always bloomed at exam time! Lovely photos, thank you.

This looks like such a beautiful place to be, and your photographs are just wonderful. The light in each of them is fantastic, and I LOVE that purple tree. So beautiful!

Thank you so much for sharing today at The Creative Exchange.

Have a wonderful evening!

Brisbane looks like a beautiful city! I never knew that a river was such an essential part of it!
I visited Australia in 2010. I enjoyed every minute of my stay. :)
